Why did History cancel Vikings?

While Vikings was a rating success for History, it was ultimately canceled due to the high cost of production. With an average budget of $10 million per episode, it became one of the most expensive shows on cable television.

In addition, co-creator Michael Hirst had expressed interest in ending the series after six seasons. As a result, History decided not to move forward with the seventh season.

The majority of Vikings is filmed in Ireland, with some additional shooting in Iceland. The show has been filmed in various locations around Dublin, including Ashford Studios and Lough Dan House. There are also some shots of Wicklow Mountains National Park.

Additional filming locations for season 7 have not yet been announced. It’s worth noting that there are very few scenes set outside of Kattegat or on the sea, so any outdoor scenes will likely be shot in Ireland.

As for the cast, many familiar faces will be returning, including Travis Fimmel, Katheryn Winnick, Clive Standen, and Gustaf Skarsgård. Newcomers include Jordan Patrick Smith and Marco Ilsø.

Ragnar Lothbrok was one of four sons born to Ragnhildis. After his brothers were killed at sea, he led a famous Viking invasion into England where he was eventually captured by King Aelle (or Ecbert as fans know him).

After ransoming himself back home, Ragnar became King over three different Scandinavian countries including Denmark, Sweden, and Norway (or Britannia as it was known then).
